Remembrance

Today’s post is going to be slightly different than the usual because I wanted to take this time to reflect on the events of 9/11. When that infamous day occurred I was 9 years old, I had been in the United States for only a year and for a long time I didn’t understand what was happening. The teacher’s at school were in a panic about something and then everyone got picked up by their parents early. My mom was glued to the TV when we got home and eventually I was able to at least understand that something devastating had just occurred. And looking back I can see that in those moments the entire world changed. It became a dangerous place full of dangerous people that wanted to hurt us. But, that’s not the end of the story.

I also remember how when our hearts were breaking we came together as a nation to support one another – physically (like our brave firefighters, medical staff and police) and mentally as we prayed and poured out our financial support to those affected by this tragedy. Sadly it took a devastating event for us to come together and in times of darkness the light shines brighter.

Today I am going to keep in mind and pray for all of those who are continuing to suffer due to the effects of 9/11 as well as those who since then have suffered due to violence in our world.
