Last Motivation Monday I talked about the tips and tricks I’ve been using to get and stay motivated to workout regularly. Today I wanted to start the week right…and what better way than to look seriously at myself and how I am living life? This self reflection also made me recall something I learned about in my social psychology classes called “self- handicapping” and it refers to actions or statements we make that allow us to avoid effort or responsibility for potential failures that could damage our self-esteem.
I know I have definitely done this in the past – because the truth is, no one wants to admit that something they did attributed to their failure. There’s something scary and exciting coming up this week for me that I will share with you in a few weeks when I see how it turns out. With this deadline approaching, I had two options – I could put it off or I could put my nose to the grindstone and get work done!
I’m not going to lie, procrastination has always been one of my favorite things and an all-nighter isn’t a foreign concept to me. However, I have found that the more you prepare ahead of time the more peace and assurance you have – because eventually getting things done just in time gets exhausting. So what I’ve decided this time around is to put all of my other errands and “to-do’s” on hold until this is done because everything else can wait.
Here’s a quote that I’m going to be keeping around me to motivate me:
“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.” – Jordan Belfort
This week (and hopefully my entire life!) I am going to live without excuses, what are you going to do?
