Last week we took a trip north in order to visit Carson’s family, spend time with our cat and catch “peak” – the ultimate fall foliage.
I’ve often heard how beautiful Vermont is in the fall but thought, “how much better can it be? We have trees in Maryland!” Well, I was wrong. In defense of my beloved home state though…we don’t really have mountains like they do in Vermont and the majority of our state is not covered in trees so you really can’t even compare the two.
I couldn’t stop staring out the windows as we drove to different places and we arrived just in time to literally see the peak of color before things started to turn more brown than orange/yellow and the trees started to lose their leaves.
Friday night we were able to get together with two of Carson’s cousins to hang out/catch up and play Settlers of Catan. I’ve now played this game twice…and I won the second time! I think it’s a pretty simple game once you get the hang of it and fun for everyone.
Saturday we decided to go kayaking with Jeff and Amy because we hadn’t been able to do it earlier in the week. It was pretty chilly by then…chilly enough for hail but blowing up our kayaks warmed us up and getting out on the water helped to. The lake we were on was surrounded by trees and mountains with crystal clear water – gorgeous! We got in just in time for more rain and hail to hit. It also snowed! I was so excited, we played Christmas music and I was ready for Santa. After all of the winter excitement we decided to make apple pie and have hot chocolate – delicious!
That night we watched the sixth installation of Harry Potter (only 2 more movies to go!) and Sunday morning we had French Toast infused with Caramel coffee creamer – it was super delicious and I’ll be sharing the recipe on Thursday so check back then. After church we hopped in the car and were on our way – New York was hitting it’s peak for color as we were driving down so that was an extra treat.
