A Wedding Gift

We’re back to talking about our wedding – one of my favorite days of the week!! Before we move on to our First Look, let’s talk about gifts. Previously I talked about the gifts that I gave to my bridesmaids and matron of honor here but my gift to Carson took just as much time and thought, if not more. Of course I scoured the internet first for ideas first and it took me a long time to narrow down my options. In the end I decided that I wanted to get him something that he could have with him on our wedding day and that incorporated something that he loved. Of course it had to be Star Wars cufflinks!! I had them hidden under my dresser for 3 months and I was dying to give them to Carson, but managed to wait 😉 Can we talk for a second about how hard it is to keep gifts a secret when you share an Amazon Prime account?! It is beyond ridiculous. I had to tell …

My Wedding Dress

It’s finally time to talk about the dress!! I had several people ask me before the wedding what they should wear and my response was, “I’ll be wearing a long white dress so it’s up to you.” I’ve actually never been good at finding dresses to wear for weddings, except, obviously, for this one. So let’s go back to the beginning. I went to several bridal salons to try on dresses, I went with my mom, I went with my aunt and I went with my bridesmaids. For some reason, I was totally expecting more vocal opinions from everyone…but in the end it really worked better that everyone let me decide because I’m such a people pleaser that it could have ended in disaster. I eventually decided that this dress was the one. I loved it. It was a perfect mixture of romantic and elegant. It even arrived right around my birthday which was a perfect gift! I got super lucky because the only alterations I had to get done were hemming the bottom and …

How We Met

How We Met

The summer after my freshman year of college also happened to be the summer that my father became the C.F.O of a new startup with some people that we had known forever and some new faces. I was looking for something to do and my father suggested that I help out at the office. It just so happened that Carson was the head of development for the company and had come from Vermont to work on the company. The first time that we interacted was when we had pancakes (perks of a startup) at the office for breakfast and he asked me if I wanted syrup. I thanked him and turned him down, telling him that I didn’t like syrup. And that was the end of our first conversation. I didn’t know until much later, but that conversation was very close to a deal breaker for him (being from Vermont…with maple syrup…) Thank goodness he gave me another chance! We met at a difficult time in my personal life because I was coming out of …

Ultimate Fall Bucket List

As we all make the transition from Summer to Fall, and as my wardrobe does the same, it is time to do some planning! It’s always been important to me to make the most of every season – especially because they all seem to go more quickly every year. Every new season brings with it new possibilities. I find that the best way to grasp those possibilities is to make bucket lists. In case you missed it, I shared my favorite fall activities with you here and without further ado here is my ultimate Fall bucket list: Go apple picking Go pumpkin picking Come up with a Halloween Costume Carve pumpkins See Wizards and Wands at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Visit Vermont to see the leaves change Break out the fall scented candles Visit Boston Purchase a new fall sweater (or 5?!) Have a scary movie date Sip apple cider Make apple pie Enjoy the crisp Fall air Visit a haunted house Read by the fire Have some pumpkin juice or butterbeer! Have a backyard …

Movie Time!

So excited that it is Friday and that I can get a little break from the craziness that is life. Maryland is currently under a state of emergency until the hurricane (hopefully) passes by us. That doesn’t stop a ridiculous amount of rain and wind though! While I hide from the weather inside with the first fire of the season I am looking forward to October. One of my favorite things about the changing season? The fact that I can now watch Halloween movies!! I know most people think “Nightmare on Elm Street or Chucky when they think of Halloween movies. But to be honest, I still am a big kid at heart and scary movies…scare me (surprise!) I’m a big scaredy cat when it comes to movies (the Scorch Trials was a little bit scarier than I liked for goodness sakes.) So when I think of Halloween movies I think… Halloween Town 1, 2 and 3! These movies take me back to the good old days (aka early 2000’s). I grew up with these …

Customer Service Nightmares

I’ve been meaning to write this blog post for months now and I’m finally getting around to it! The title originally was meant to be “Things Not To Say To An IKEA Bistro Employee” but it evolved and the shorter the better, right? In case you’re not sure – the Bistro is not the restaurant which is on the second floor and is like a cafeteria almost – the Bistro is the little place close to the exit where you can purchase hot dogs, cinnamon buns, soda and frozen yogurt. Disclaimers: All Bistro prices already include tax – so you really do only need 50 cents, or a dollar etc. The hot dogs are indeed always 50 cents. That’s not a special that they run every single day of the year. And they are also all beef. The frozen yogurt is fat free and it tastes almost exactly like vanilla ice cream, and the employees will know what you’re talking about if you refer to it as ice cream. And while I do agree with …

Tuesday Introductions

Hi everyone! I’m seeing a lot of new faces here recently, so I thought this would be the perfect time to tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Svetlana (if you think that’s a weird/interesting name you can read more about it here) and I am 23 years old. I hear that no one likes you when you’re 23 but I haven’t found that to be the case. I graduated in 2014 from University of Maryland with a Sociology degree and I am very passionate about humanitarian issues. I recently got engaged to the best man I have ever met (read about it here!) and we have a very handsome cat named Sirius Black (if you get that reference we can now be best friends and you can find out more about him here). Carson and I are also obsessed with sushi and Asian food in general. My favorite book series is Harry Potter and my favorite author is J.K. Rowling. Yes, I am a “Potter Head” and if someone could do a …
